U.S. Department of Justice

The Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office has had a successful long-standing co-operation with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, both with H.E. the Ambassador and the U.S. Department of Justice – the Resident Legal Advisor’s Office. As a part of this long-standing co-operation, the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, has held several meetings with the highest representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, including the Attorney General, as well as with the representatives of the U.S. State Department in charge of the rule of law and programmes for assistance to the judiciary. In the course of this co-operation, the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office has been recognised by our counterparts from the U.S. Administration as a reliable partner and a model example in the region for combating organised crime and corruption.

Apart from the strategic support and co-operation in the fight against transnational crime, the co-operation with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and the representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice in Belgrade also includes carrying out joint projects which are a priority of the public prosecutor’s office, such as offering professional training of the public prosecutors regarding the implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code, investigations of economic crimes, corruption and money laundering, seizure of proceeds from crime, etc.

Finally, the co-operation with the U.S. Embassy also includes organising study visits under "International Visitor Leadership Programme” (IVLP) and "Open World Programme”, which provide a valuable opportunity to the representatives of the public prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Serbia to learn how their U.S. colleagues work and to share experiences with them.
